About

Anaheim  is a city in Orange County, California, part of the Los Angeles metropolitan area. As of the 2010 United States Census, the city had a population of 336,265, making it the most populous city in Orange County and the 10th most populous city in California.

Anaheim was founded by fifty German families in 1857 and incorporated as the second city in Los Angeles County on March 18, 1876. The city developed into an industrial center, producing electronics, aircraft parts and canned fruit. It is the site of the Disneyland Resort, a world-famous grouping of theme parks and hotels which opened in 1955, Angel Stadium of Anaheim, Honda Center and the Anaheim Convention Center.

The City of Anaheim is renowned for its attractions and theme parks such as Disneyland, Anaheim Stadium, Convention Center and Arena, with millions of visitors each year from around the globe. Every five years the city develops a Hazard Mitigation Plan, the most recent plan prepared during 2015, in order to address elements of disaster.

Population and area: 343,000 residents, approximately 16,000 businesses, and over 4,600 acres of parks and open space. The city includes approximately 49.7 square miles.

Major hazards: flood/storm, urban/wildland fires, earthquakes, dam failure, epidemic, high winds/Santa Ana winds, vector issues, and mud/landslides.

– Earthquakes, high winds/Santa Ana winds, and urban/wildland fires are the top three hazards.

The undeveloped land in the Hill and Canyon area located east of the SR-241 is classified as a “Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone” by the Fire Department and is at the greatest risk of fire in the city.
